Set in the mountains of Connemara, County Galway, The Beauty Queen of Leenane tells the darkly comic tale of Maureen Folan, a plain, lonely woman in her early forties, and Mag, her manipulative, ageing mother. When Mag interferes in Maureen’s first and possibly final chance of a loving relationship, a train of events is set in motion that leads inexorably towards the play’s terrifying finale.

Martin McDonagh’s multi award-winning play is a gripping blend of dark comedy, melodrama, horror and tragedy.

The Beauty Queen of Leenane was first presented as a Druid Theatre/Royal Court Theatre co-production in January 1996. The play won the George Devine Award, the Writer’s Guild Award, the Critic’s Circle Award and Martin McDonagh received the Evening Standard Award for Most Promising Playwright. The production transferred to New York, opening on Broadway in April 1998, and was nominated for six Tony Awards.

Still, the Blackbird Sings tells the story of poet-soldier Francis Ledwidge - an Irish war poet from County Meath.

Sometimes known as the "poet of the blackbirds", he was killed in action during World War 1.

Award-winning writer David Duggan re-invents, in a contemporary style, the dramatic events as Ledwidge and his squad members face the question in barracks: why return to the front when we have already survived three campaigns? Can we trick death again? Should we desert?

With family connections in Gweedore and Barnesmore, Laghey, with this show there is a sense of coming back to their family roots here in Donegal.

They have been entertaining people all over the world for 32 years, performing to audiences that have included former Australian Prime Minister John Howard, Irish President Mary McAleese and the late Pope John Paul, and Tony Blair has stated that his favourite peace song of all time is the Fureys “Green Fields of France”.

There is nothing we can say about these legends of Irish Music that people don’t already know so don’t miss this opportunity to hear them sing all their hits including ‘I will love you’, ‘When you were sweet 16’, ‘The Green fields of France’, ‘The old man’, ‘Red rose café’, ‘From Clare to here’, ‘Her father didn’t like me anyway’, ‘Leaving Nancy’, ‘Steal away’ etc.

Early booking advised.

As Gar O Donnell prepares to emigrate to America we see the conflict between his brash confident public persona (Gar Public) and the rage and sorrow he feels at the state of his life and the people around him who have contributed to it (Gar Private).

Friel’s classic explores the complexities behind Gar’s gradual detachment from his family and community and his impulse to immerse himself in a new, anonymous country.

Sometimes comic sometimes poignant, this play in the hands of this group of local actors is a must see for theatre goers.

The cast includes Leo Mc Bride as the father, Ann Shiels as Madge, Michael Kelly as Gar Public Patrick Mc Brearty as Gar Private and John Mc Ginley as the Canon.

A doorway. A stairwell. A story. Two women: one desperate to cross over the threshold: the other desperate to escape.

What is it on the other side that makes eighty-year-old Maggie want so badly to go in? What is it that has terrified Susan into packing up and leaving? And why does the story of the mysterious Helena Blunden still hold them both there? This is thriller, ghost story, musical.

Set in modern Belfast in a converted linen mill it has more twists and turns than the yarn winding its way round the spindle. Just when you think it's time to relax, sit back and breathe easy, the breath is knocked right out of you.

Written by Paul Boyd and Bernie McGill and directed by Zoë Seaton.

Each course contains three or more levels: Beginner, intermediate and advanced and is usually of one week’s duration. Class tuition is by specialist teachers who use graded courses, supported by modern audio-visual resources, as well as other proven methods of language teaching. The daily schedule consists of intensive morning and afternoon tutorials with attention directed towards spoken Irish (except for some units at the highest level), aiming at correct pronunciation, proper idiom and development of vocabulary, particularly of contemporary life. Our aim is to foster conversational ability and fluency, with some 35 language contact hours per course. Recreational activities such as dancing, poetry, or guest lectures take place each evening, after which participants are free to practise their Irish with people from all other levels while enjoying the craic in the local pubs. The Social format of the courses ensures that people attending on their own, quickly feel comfortable and at ease within the group. It has been the experience of the Directors that those who have completed a two-week programme succeed in achieving a marked improvement in fluency. Courses are officially recognised by the Department of Education.

Strictly Ballroom at Jacksons Hotel Donegal in our Drumboe Suite Sunday 28th March

Date: 28/03/2010

Ballybofey (Bealach Féich)
Dust off those dancing shoes and come join us for a night of Ballroom with Chris Dallat on Sunday the 28th March from 9.00pm Jacksons Hotel Ballybofey Co. Despite the beauty of this peninsula, it is relatively under-utilised by walkers, even in the height of the ssummer sseason. All routes, followed by Oideas Gael, vary in difficulty and give participants a chance to see the best of South Donegal’s wild and varied coastal scenery. This area forms part of the Donegal Gaeltacht and it is hoped that walkers will be able to use their knowledge of Irish during the course of the week’s holiday, or if new to the language, that they will practise a few works and expressions. Emphasis is on enjoyment and the evenings are spent listening to some of the traditional music, for which the area is famous & to join in the craic which accompanies the OIDEAS GAEL programme of courses. These walks will not involve any rock climbing and some are quite long and strenuous. It is essential, therefore, that participants ensure that they are fit enough to undertake such exercise (all walks are 4-6 hours long).

In iardheisceart Chontae Dhún na nGall atá cuid de na limistéirí siúil is fearr in Éirinn, le Sliabh Liag a mheastar a bheith ar an bhinn mhara is mórthaibhsí san Eoraip. D’ainneoin áilleacht na leithinise, ní thaithíonn siúlaithe cnoc an oiread sin í, fiú le linn ardséarsúr an tsamhraidh, as siocair í bheith chomh scoite sin. Tá rogha siúlóidí á tairiscint nach ionann deacracht; tugann gach ceann acu deis do shiúlaithe breathnú ar éagsúlacht radharcanna fíoráille de chuid chóstaí iargúlta dheisceart Dhún na Gall. Cuid de Ghaeltacht Dhún na nGall é an ceantar seo agus táthar ag súil go mbeidh ar chumas siúlaithe a gcuid Gaeilge a úsáid le linn shaoire na seachtaine, sin nó, mura bhfuil an teanga ar a dtoil acu, go dtógfaidh siad abairt nó dhó. Sult agus sásamh is mó atá i gceist sa chúrsa & beidh am go leor tráthnóna le h-éisteacht leis an cheol tíre a bhfuil cáil ar an réigiún dá bharr agus taitneamh a bhaint as ach chraic a bhíonn mar ghnáth chuid de chúrsaí Oideas Gael. Cé nach mbeidh ailleadóireacht i gceist sna siúlóidí beith roinnt acu measartha fada agus maolach agus caithfidh luacht an chúrsa a chinntiú go mbeidh siad

McAleer inspired a whole generation of Irish and UK acts, but he’s still producing fresh, original material like a spring chicken on acid, while the legendary timing and delivery are sharper than ever. 2009 was his most successful ever in terms of audience numbers; come and catch him before it all goes to his head.

Gurney's Love Letters chronicles the relationship between Andy and Melissa solely through their correspondence.

The play tells the story of Andrew Makepeace Ladd and Melissa Gardner, whose poignantly funny friendship and ill-fated romance takes them from second grade through adolescence, maturity, and into middle age.

Their words are both hysterical and moving and as the play unfolds the audience comes to know both of them intimately – from their strict WASP upbringing, through later life political aspirations, love affairs, military service and artistic ambitions.

A smash hit both off and on Broadway, Love Letters captures Andy and Melissa with a precision of detail and depth of feeling only Gurney can command.

Love Letters is funny, compelling, sad, poignant, and will prove to be an exhilarating and touching night of theatre that will stay in the memory long after the performance ends.

Attention to detail, playful audience interaction and that all important X-factor that leaves you with the feeling of witnessing the real thing have led their performance being described as "Beyond tribute" by both audience and critics alike.

Following the enormous success of their "Live & Dangerous" & "Dedication" tours, the band embarked upon their "Into The Limelight" 2008 tour to tie in with their appearance on an episode of BBC2's Arena documentary series. The tour travelled as far as a headline slot at the Rhodes Rock Festival in Greece and the Virgin Atlantic Music Festival in Barbados.

Their latest tour continues to explore and celebrate the artistic and musical legacy of the hard living, hard rocking yet at times surprisingly tender and romantic artist that was Philip Lynott.

Expect favourites like 'Whiskey In The Jar', 'Black Rose' 'The Boys Are Back In Town' and 'Sarah' and many others we've come to expect from one of the most highly rated acts on the circuit.

The original Táipéis Gael creations are now exhibited all over the world.
The south-west area of Donegal has long been known for the excellence of its craft-weavers and for the production of high quality tweed exhibits and garments. In this week-long course, two of the original artists, from the area, teach the skills acquired from the area’s older weaving practitioners.
Participants will have the opportunity of working with the skilled weavers of Taipéis Gael and meet with those people who generously passed on their skills from the previous generation.
Tapestry frames and yarns will be provided. The week-long programme includes:
Natural Dyeing demonstrations, Carding, Spinning on Donegal Wheels, Designing for tapestry, Tapestry Weaving. It is expected that each participant will have produced a tapestry by the end of the course.

Please note:
Participants involved in any activity aspect of any of the Oideas Gael courses are advised to have his/her own personal accident insurance. Oideas Gael will accept no liability for any personal injuries, loss, damage or accident, of whatsoever nature, which may occur during the dates in which the participants are attending organised courses.
Tá an cúrsa seo a thairiscint i mbliana ag Oideas Gael le deis a thabhairt do rannpháirtithe a bheith ag foghlaim ó bheirt de na h-ealaíontóirí a bhí mar chuid de Táipéis Gael ó 1991 ar aghaidh. Beidh an deis ann castáil leis na daoine áitiúla a shín ar aghaidh na seanscileanna ó ghlún go glún le go mbeadh an fhíodóireacht ina ealaín beo beathach.
Beidh dathú, cardáil, sníomh, dearadh agus fíodóireacht a theagasc mar chuid de mhodúil na seachtaine agus taipéis deartha agus críochnaithe ag na rannpháirtithe.

Tá an cúrsa seo dírithe ar dhaoine a bhfuil caighdeán ard Gaeilge labhartha acu, a bhfuil roinnt eolais acu cheana ar ghramadach na teanga ach ar mian leo eolas níos fearr a fháil uirthi. Tá sé oiriúnach do dhaoine a úsáideann an Ghaeilge go rialta ina gcuid oibre, mar shampla múinteoirí, craoltóirí, iriseoirí agus scríbhneoirí. Tá sé fóirsteanach chomh maith do mhic léinn atá ag déanamh staidéir ar an Ghaeilge san ollscoil.

Beidh an bhéim ar scríobh agus ar léamh na teanga ach beidh gníomh-aíochtaí cainte i gceist chomh maith.

Tabharfar tús áite don Chaighdeán Oifigiúil seachas do chanúint faoi leith ar bith.

Seo cuid de na nithe a bheidh i gceist sa chúrsa:
•	foclóir nua-aimseartha ag baint le réimsí mar na meáin chumarsáide agus cúrsaí reatha;
•	cleachtaí éisteachta ina mbeidh béim faoi leith ar chúrsaí nuachta;
•	cleachtaí scríbhneoireachta, mar léirmheasanna gairide, litreacha agus achoimrithe;
•	cluichí agus comórtais ghramadaí
•	cora cainte úsáideacha atá le fáil sna canúintí éagsúla;

The dramatic landscape and coastline of this area is the setting for this course of painting tuition for beginners and improvers. The daily schedule will be flexible and participants are assured of personal guidance and attention from our accomplished guest tutor. There will usually be two sessions per day, some possibly early morning to capture light variables.

Students need only bring with them materials for their own preferred media such as acrylic, gouache or oils. They also need a sketch pad, a selection of two or three brushes and we suggest that you bring a discarded knife for mixing colours, a palette (a dinner plate will do), some rags and treated boards or canvas, an easel would also be of advantage. Some materials will be available at the course location for further requirements.

Is iad aidhmeanna an chúrsa ná:
•	léargas a thabhairt ar fhadhbanna coitianta san aistriúchán ó Bhéarla go Gaeilge agus ar straitéisí chun dul i ngleic leo
•	teicnící eagarthóireachta a theagasc
•	meon criticiúil a fhorbairt chun gur féidir caighdeán an aistriúcháin a mheas
•	léargas a thabhairt ar na fadhbanna a bhaineann le húsáid na nuathéarmaíochta i nGaeilge

An mbeidh sé oiriúnach domsa?
Ní cúrsa teanga é 'Ó Bhéarla go Gaeilge'. Is cúrsa é le haghaidh daoine a bhfuil ardchumas Gaeilge acu agus atá ag obair mar aistritheoirí nó ar spéis leo tabhairt faoi obair sin. Tugtar léargas ar ghnáthobair an aistritheora agus ar na scileanna a theastaíonn ó lá go lá m.sh.doiléire agus débhríocht a sheachaint sa Ghaeilge scríofa, na foclóirí a úsáid, leaganacha canúna agus leaganacha caighdeánacha a aithint thar a chéile srl.

Ábhar an chúrsa
Tabharfar cóip de théacsleabhar an chúrsa do na rannpháirtithe go léir. Ní bheidh téacsanna fada le haistriú le linn an chúrsa. Ina ionad sin beidh abairtí agus sleachta gearra le haistriú a léiríonn fadhbanna agus dúshláin faoi leith m.sh. béarlachas, an focal ceart sa chomhthéacs ceart, rudaí na n-aistrítear de ghnáth srl. Is téacsanna neamhliteartha (tuarascálacha, bileoga eolais, suímh ghréasáin srl.) is mó a bheidh i gceist. Beidh eagarthóireacht le déanamh ar théacs nó dhó. Ní gá do rannpháirtithe aon trealamh a thabhairt leo ach peann agus páipéar agus cóip de Foclóir Gaeilge-Béarla Uí Dhónaill. Cé gur ábhar 'trom' go leor atá san aistriúchán bíonn plé breá bríomhar ann i gcónaí maidir leis an leagan Gaeilge is fearr.

Teagascóir
Tá sealanna caite ag Antain Mac Lochlainn i mbun sheirbhís aistriúcháin Bhord na Gaeilge, ina eagarthóir scripte le RTÉ, agus ag obair mar shaoraistritheoir. Tá suim ar leith aige in oiliúint aistritheoirí. Ba é a cheap an tArd-Dioplóma san Aistriúchán in Ollscoil na hÉireann, Má Nuad agus a theagasc an cúrsa sin. I measc na bhfoilseachán leis tá Cuir Gaeilge Air (Cois Life 2000) agus Speaking Irish: Take Your Language Skills Beyond Basics (McGraw-Hill 2007). Tá sé ina bhall gairmiúil de Chumann Aistritheoirí agus Teangairí na hÉireann.

Clár ama
Bíonn na ranganna ar siúl ó Luan go hAoine. Tosaíonn seisiún na maidine ar 10.00am agus leanann an obair ar aghaidh go dtí 5.00pm le sos lóin dhá uair an chloig idir 1pm agus 3pm. Bíonn dhá shos tae ann gach aon lá.

Beginners will be involved in an enjoyable way of acquiring an introduction into the playing of this traditional Irish instrument while having an opportunity to learn and perform Irish Melodies with other musicians.
Improvers will increase and share their musical repertoire, enjoy playing with other harpers while improving their technique.

There will also be sessions on basic song accompaniment, and a brief insight into the history of the instrument.

Availability of Harps
Oideas Gael will have a limited number of harps available for participants, providing that we have received prior notice. This may incur a small extra charge for the week.

Tá an cúrsa seo dírithe ar fhoghlaimeoirí agus ar fheabhsóirí a bhfuil suim acu bunscileanna ceol an chláirsigh a fhoghlaim ó theagascóir agus múinteoir proifisiúnta. Bainfear úsáid as seisiúin i ngrúpa agus i dteagasc aonaracha chun na scileanna a láidriú agus a dhaingniú.

Tá an cúrsa seo dírithe ar dhaoine a bhfuil caighdeán ard Gaeilge labhartha acu, a bhfuil roinnt eolais acu cheana ar ghramadach na teanga ach ar mian leo eolas níos fearr a fháil uirthi. Tá sé oiriúnach do dhaoine a úsáideann an Ghaeilge go rialta ina gcuid oibre, mar shampla múinteoirí, craoltóirí, iriseoirí agus scríbhneoirí. Tá sé fóirsteanach chomh maith do mhic léinn atá ag déanamh staidéir ar an Ghaeilge san ollscoil.

Beidh an bhéim ar scríobh agus ar léamh na teanga ach beidh gníomh-aíochtaí cainte i gceist chomh maith.

Tabharfar tús áite don Chaighdeán Oifigiúil seachas do chanúint faoi leith ar bith.

Seo cuid de na nithe a bheidh i gceist sa chúrsa:
•	foclóir nua-aimseartha ag baint le réimsí mar na meáin chumarsáide agus cúrsaí reatha;
•	cleachtaí éisteachta ina mbeidh béim faoi leith ar chúrsaí nuachta;
•	cleachtaí scríbhneoireachta, mar léirmheasanna gairide, litreacha agus achoimrithe;
•	cluichí agus comórtais ghramadaí
•	cora cainte úsáideacha atá le fáil sna canúintí éagsúla;
•	cleachtaí cainte, mar dhíospóireachtaí agus rólghníomhaíochtaí.

Modh múinte
Chomh maith le hobair aonair, beidh obair bheirte agus obair ghrúpa i
gceist sna ranganna.
